William Taylor & Mike Foor To Be Honored as Educators of Excellence

The IHS Alumni Association is pleased to announce the 2024, winners of the Educator of Excellence Awards! This year we have selected two esteemed faculty members, William Taylor, biology teacher and Mike Foor, industrial technology teacher. Both will be recognized at a luncheon on March 11, at 11:30 a.m., in the Media Center at the High School. Please consider attending this celebration and share a memory about either of these instructors!

More Great News about 2023 & 2024

The Independence Alumni Association will be celebrating 17 years of Incorporation on September 7, this year. In 2009 the Association presented its first award to a graduating senior in the amount of $250.00, leaving just under $600.00 in the checking account. Later that year the Association presented a gift to the high school, two IHS Floor Mats, as the first gift presented to the school. The end year balance in the account was just under $400.00.

Jumping ahead to today... Thanks to your generosity, the Alumni Association will choose two graduating seniors via an essay competition and award each of them $1,000.00! In addition, the Association anticipates a gift of $1,250.00, to our Alma Mater! These gifts are impressive considering our membership is just over 200 Alumni, paying annual dues of $10.00. The majority of dues are used to produce and mail the Spectator Newsletter twice a year.

So how do we do it? It's through our Home Days and Home Days Brunch fund raising, but mostly thru your generous 2023 Alumni donations totaling $4,938.93! Last year was a record setting year for Alumni donations for which we most sincerely thank you! Our 2023 end of year balance was $14,500.00.

The Alumni Association meets quarterly on the second Monday of the month in March, June, September and November.

Newsletter Submission Deadline for the Spring Spectator is Sunday, May 19th.

We are always looking for Memorabilia from your high school years. If you have rings, class photos, yearbooks or other memorabilia, particularly from 1926 thru 1928, 1931 thru 1944, 1946 thru 1951, 1992 and 1994, you would like to donate, please email Bob Wagner ('66,) at goawagner@aol.com.
